Great Barrington Police say that Stewart Keith Dupuis, 62, suffered “serious injuries,” as he attempted to cross South Main Street in the vicinity of East Mountain Medical Center — near a crosswalk with a pedestrian light — at around 7:30 pm. He was struck by a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Lori Amato, 53, of Sheffield. Amato was traveling south.

According to Springfield’s Channel 22 News WWLP.COM, Dupuis was taken to the Great Barrington Fair Grounds, where he was picked up by a Life Flight helicopter. Also assisting Great Barrington Police were the Great Barrington Fire Department, Southern Berkshire Ambulance Squad, Sheffield Police Department, Egremont Police Department and Massachusetts State Police accident reconstruction/crime scene unit.

The south end of Main Street was closed for several hours while investigators worked at the scene. The accident is still under investigation, and charges have not been filed.
