Housatonic — The Great Barrington Fire Department responded to a fire at Berkshire Mountain Bakery Wednesday (December 7) at around 11:30 a.m.
Employees stood outside while firefighters brought armfuls of smoking insulation into the parking lot and sprayed it, while others remained inside and put the fire out.
Owner Richard Bourdon told The Edge the fire had started in one of his 30-year-old ovens, possibly due to a buildup of flour dust.
“It’s nothing too major,” he added. “Now we just need to clean it up.”
GBFD Chief Charles Burger said the fire affected the “electrical, insulation, and the storage around [the oven],” and added that the structure was untouched.
About an hour or so after the fire started, Bourdon and some employees were seen going back into the building, escorted by Chief Burger.
